Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Taj Gibson believes the Jimmy Butler trade worked out for Minnesota and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Timberwolves traded Butler to the Sixers in November for guard Jerryd Bayless, forwards Robert Covington and Dario Saric, and a 2022 second-round draft pick.

Butler requested a trade from Minnesota before the 2018-19 season started, but ex-president and head coach Tom Thibodeau was trying to see if he could convince Butler to change his mind. Thibodeau’s plea didn’t work, and Butler got his wish.

Gibson, who is close with Butler, wishes things could have worked out with Jimmy in Minnesota. But overall, he’s happy with the way things have turned out.

“For the way it looks, I guess,” Gibson said, via Michael Rand of the Star Tribune. “I was hoping it could work out. But things in the NBA always change, and you just have to keep moving forward. Jimmy is in a good situation. [Karl-Anthony Towns] KAT and [Andrew Wiggins] Wig are in a great situation here, so it worked out for the better.”

Jimmy Butler Maillot,Usually, trades in the NBA rarely work out well for both teams. But in the Butler deal, both the Timberwolves and Sixers improved. The Wolves are 17-13 since the trade, while Philadelphia is 20-10. Minnesota got two shooters in Covington and Saric who have stretched the floor well for them, while the 76ers got one of the best two-way players in the NBA.

The Timberwolves and Sixers face off in Philadelphia on Tuesday for the first time since the trade. All eyes will be on Butler, Towns, and Wiggins. Butler reportedly had issues with both players in Minnesota.
