It's been more than a decade since the NBA worked with one of its TV partners to air a game of H-O-R-S-E. At All-Star Weekend in 2009 and 2010, TNT broadcast the classic your-turn, my-turn playground shooting game. Kevin Durant, who was then a budding star on a basketball franchise that had just relocated to Oklahoma City, won both times — not that many people seemed to care. The NBA's official H-O-R-S-E game was criticized for a lack of creativity and how long it took, and was canned after only two years.

Now it looks like H-O-R-S-E could be making a comeback. On Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski reported the NBA was working with ESPN to resurrect the event. The NBA has been shut down since March 12 because of the coronavirus, and there is still no timetable for a return to play. The league is scrambling to televise competition between its players in some form or fashion, which is why it's considering bringing back an event that was widely considered a flop.

Zion Williamson Maillot,Wojnarowski reported that players would "presumably (be) using home gyms." Not having players at one location could make things difficult. Can H-O-R-S-E be H-O-R-S-E if everyone doesn't have identical markings on the floor as frames of reference?

Still, the idea has some potential if it is heavily edited. Live streaming a game of H-O-R-S-E played remotely would be a disaster. Long pauses in play are inevitable. Eliminate all the dead space.

Getting the right mix of players is crucial, too. It sounds like the NBA is trying to get as many big guns as possible. The New York Post reported Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Donovan Mitchell and Zion Williamson are names that have been discussed. Being a below-average shooter shouldn't automatically disqualify a player, but there has to be some balance between star power and shotmaking ability.

The Pelicans have a handful of players who could be compelling additions. Here are the five Pelicans players NOLA.com would most want to see compete in H-O-R-S-E.

5. Nicolo Melli

This might seem like an odd choice. For the first few months of the season, Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry begged Melli to shoot more. The 29-year-old Italian forward, who made the jump to the NBA this season after playing professionally in Europe for a decade-plus, wasn’t quick enough on the trigger.

Slowly but surely, Melli got comfortable. Since the calendar flipped to 2020, he’s shooting 47.3% from the field and 40% from 3. He’s got a nice-looking shooting stroke. He also doesn’t take himself too seriously. Imagine him being asked to replicate the between-the-legs lefty layup Rajon Rondo pulled off in 2010. It could be pure comedy.

4. E’Twaun Moore

"Uncle E" is an underrated shotmaker. He’s an undersized shooting guard who doesn’t jump out of the gym or blow anyone away with end-to-end speed. The nine-year NBA veteran gets by almost purely on skill. He’s a career 39% 3-point shooter and the owner of one of the smoothest floaters in the game. In a league that increasingly favors 3s or layups, Moore’s in-between game could be a way to exploit the competition.

3. Zion Williamson

Dunking est rarement autorisé dans les compétitions H-O-R-S-E, alors peut-être que c’est trop haut sur la liste pour un joueur qui gagne sa vie à la jante. "C’est un joueur," JJ Redick a déclaré après Williamson a été parfait de 3 à ses débuts. "Vous ne vous attendez pas à cela, mais il vient de se tenir à l’occasion."

Williamson adore la compétition. Il n’a rien fait d’autre que de répondre à des attentes très élevées depuis qu’il était en deuxième an née au lycée. Tu t’attends vraiment à ce qu’il aille tranquillement dans la nuit ?

Williamson obtient également des points bonus pour le charisme. Même s’il tire sa révérence tôt, les chances sont qu’il serait divertissant et les cotes d’écoute de la télévision serait élevé.

2. JJ Redick

C’était une décision atroce de ne pas mettre Redick No. C’est le meilleur tireur pur des Pelicans d’un kilomètre. Il est l’un des meilleurs tireurs jamais, et cette saison, il a montré peu de signes de ralentissement. Il est plumes en 3s à un taux de 45,2%, la troisième meilleure marque de la NBA.

Redick a une portée illimitée. Il peut faire des tirs à partir d’un arrêt ou en mouvement. Il tire un blistering 58,8% sur ce que la NBA considère comme "grand ouvert" 3s, où le défenseur le plus proche est plus de 6 pieds.

La seule chose qui me donne une pause est le paquet de flotteur de Redick. Redick est 3 de 18 sur les tirs entre 5 et 9 pieds cette saison, selon NBA.com.

1. Brandon Ingram

Il n’y a aucun moyen Durant défend ses deux titres consécutifs H-O-R-S-E alors qu’il est sur la voie de la réparer d’un Achille déchiré. Alors que diriez-vous du joueur qui a fait une imitation crédible Durant cette saison?

Ingram est l’un des getters seau les plus sans effort dans la ligue. Il a tellement de différents types de coups dans son arsenal - fadeaways, scoops et revers funky. Il peut finir à l’intérieur de chaque main. Il a le moins de trous sur la liste des Pelicans du point de vue du tir.

Et Ingram est une tête de cerceau. Vous avez l’impression qu’il aimerait faire partie de quelque chose comme ça.
