When the Fresno State men's basketball program produced a "March Madness" style bracket featuring the Bulldogs' 64 best all-time players, No. 15 seed Pat Riddlesprigger was certainly not expected to win a series of head-to-head votes by the fans. That all changed in an instant thanks to the Twitter account of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Riddlesprigger had a solid Bulldog career by playing in 119 games with 69 starts at Fresno State from 1988 to 1992, averaging a career 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game - but just making the cut for the contest and paling into comparison to Fresno State greats like NBA All-Star Paul George and long-time NBA veteran Melvin Ely.

Antetokounmpo is dating Mariah Riddlesprigger, the daughter of Pat. Mariah was a graduate of local Fresno Bullard High School and went onto play volleyball at Rice.

So when Fresno State put their 64 top players up to a fan vote on Twitter to decide the ultimate fan-favorite, Antetokounmpo used his platform to boost Riddlesprigger's votes.

Antetokounmpo's influence came in the first round when No. 15 seed Riddlesprigger was paired with No. 2 seed Courtney Alexander. Alexander led the nation in scoring during the 1999-2000 season and was the No. 13 pick in the following NBA Draft as one of legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian's top players at Fresno State.

But when Antetokounmpo retweeted the Twitter poll with the message, "My vote goes to Pat Riddlesprigger!" - his many loyal fans followed. Of more than 4,000 votes, 84.7 percent went to Riddlesprigger for the first-round upset. The replies were littered with GIFs of Antetokounmpo by his fans.

Antetokounmpo did the same in the second round, with 85.9 percent of the vote going to Riddlesprigger over No. 10 seed Karachi Edo.

In the "Sweet 16," Antetokounmpo tweeted "You already know #VotePat," which gave Riddlesprigger 83.7 percent of the vote over No. 6 seed Demetrius Porter. Antetokounmpo tweeted "Pat Riddlesprigger all the way to the end" in the Elite 8 vote against Chris Herren - a star guard in the Tarkanian era and the featured subject of ESPN 30 for 30's "Unguarded." Riddlesprigger took 84 percent of the vote.

Riddlesprigger finally faced similar star power to that of the "Greek Freak" in the Final 4 against No. 1 seed Paul George. George spent two years at Fresno State before becoming one of the NBA's top stars. George's jersey was retired and placed in the rafters of the Save Mart Center in November. But one tweet fromAntetokounmpo, "Tough one but we can do it" lifted Riddlesprigger to a 66.3 percent majority vote out of 6,738 clicks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Maillot,On Saturday evening, the championship vote placed Riddlesprigger against another No. 1 seed Melvin Ely. Ely gave Fresno State's Red Wave many fond memories from 2000 to 2002 with back-to-back WAC Player of the Year awards and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances under Tarkanian. He would then be the No. 13 pick in the NBA Draft and played nine seasons in the NBA, also earning an NBA Championship ring with the San Antonio Spurs.

But Antetokounmpo's tweet saying, "Time for Pat Riddlesprigger to get that championship," lifted Riddlesprigger to the win. With nearly 6,000 votes, Riddlesprigger landed about 87 percent - his most lopsided win of all.

So thanks to Antetokounmpo's influence, Pat Riddlesprigger is the winner of Fresno State's 2020 "Field of 64" Twitter polls.
