The Indiana Pacers may have a point to make when free agency tips off June 30, one that could result of a changing of the guard in the Indiana backcourt.

The Pacers intend to target point guard Ricky Rubio, according the Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

The report states if the Pacers are able to land Rubio, he would replace the combination of Darren Collison and Cory Joseph as the backcourt mate of Victor Oladipo. Collison and Joseph, like Rubio, are headed toward unrestricted free agency.

Rubio, 28, averaged 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 27.9 minutes in 68 games (67 starts) for Utah this season, shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 31.1 percent from deep and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Victor Oladipo Maillot,Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey was not enthusiastic about the possibility of Rubio returning to the Jazz next season. Rubio is one of three free agents on the Utah roster, along with Thabo Sefolosha and Ekpe Udoh. Five other Jazz players — Derrick Favors, Raul Neto, Kyle Korver, Royce O’Neale and Georges Niang — have non-guaranteed contracts for next season.

O’Connor also reports Indiana has had discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans about the fourth overall pick in Thursday night’s draft, a selection obtained from the Los Angeles Lakers in the blockbuster Anthony Davis deal.

Jonathan Givony of ESPN has reported the Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves have all shown interest in dealing for the No. 4 overall pick with New Orleans.
